Best Laptops With Numeric Keypad

laptops with numeric keypad

Most types of record keeping on laptops or PCs are made much easier with a numeric keypad. And that’s the same whether you’re recording figures, budgets, unique reference numbers or dates.

But when you have to use numbers above the keyboard, this can significantly slow you down and impede your productivity. Moreover, laptops that don’t have a numeric keypad also have smaller screens, which means there are fewer windows you can see at any one time.

If you’re accustomed to working with a numeric keypad you can quickly enter numbers and dates with your right hand alone, work very timely and productively, and leave your remaining hand free to eat your apple or sip your coffee.

It comes pre-installed with Microsoft Windows 10 in S mode. And as we discuss in our buying guide Microsoft Windows is the operating system with the most widely used software for record keeping. And as for the S mode, you can be shot of that in a few simple steps.

We also love the backlit keyboard - perfect for finding keys in low light. It has a really good battery life of up to 7.5 hours on a full charge. It also has a good integrated graphics card if you ever wanted to do a little gaming on it. And an integrated webcam and microphone.

Best Laptops With Numeric Keypad Buying Guide

As promised, here’s your buying guide. Let’s walk you through some of the key things to think about when shopping for laptops with numeric keypads.

Operating System

The most widely used software for logging financial data, or even for record keeping in general, are built to work on Microsoft Windows. This is why all of the laptops that made our shortlist all use the Microsoft Windows operating system.

Sure you can get comparable software designed to work on other operating systems such as Apple’s iOS, but these tend to be both more expensive to buy and more complicated to use.

Size

Now, if you’re specifically looking for a laptop with a numeric keypad, you can forget about getting one that’s a mere 11 inches in size. Or 14 inches for that matter. This size laptop doesn’t have enough space for a numeric keypad.

What you will need is a laptop that is at least 15 inches in size. Although bigger would be better in terms of finding enough room for your windows on your screen.

But you may also want to bear in mind that larger laptops tend to be heavier laptops, so if you go for too big a laptop, it will be less portable.

CPU

CPU stands for the Central Processing Unit. It’s basically the brains of the computer. The newer and more up-to-date and powerful the CPU the better the laptop performs.

You don’t need an especially powerful CPU to do bookkeeping or any basic record keeping, but there’s certainly no harm in getting a laptop with a decent CPU in the event that you will need a good one at some point in the future.

RAM

RAM stands for Random Access Memory. It represents the laptop’s ability to multitask, and to have several applications running all at the same time.

This is particularly handy if you need to copy data from one database or spreadsheet onto another. Or if you like to have music running on your laptop as you work.

Battery Life

The beauty of a laptop as opposed to a PC is just how portable it is. You can unplug it, take it anywhere, and let it run off it’s battery for a while.

Nowadays, laptop manufacturers boast that their laptops have batteries that can last between 6 and 10 hours.

But it’s important to remember that how fast a laptop battery drains depends on many factors, such as how full a charge has it had, and what is being done on the computer to drain the battery.

How many hours battery life you think you’ll need depends on how you intend to use it. If you are mostly in one place where you can plug it in, it’s barely important, but if you have a long commute, then you might want a laptop battery that will last at least 4 hours on a full charge.

Screen Size & Resolution

We mentioned laptop size earlier on and said that you will need one with a screen of at least 15 inches. But in terms of seeing what’s on the screen clearly, that comes down to display resolution.

The resolution classed as Full High Definition comes in at 1920 x 1080. At this resolution you can see images and videos that are particularly crisp and clear.

Even if it’s not your main intention to watch movies or edit photos on your laptop, there’s no harm in getting one that has good resolution like this. You never know when you might be thankful for it.

On Board Storage

These days files are mostly stored online in virtual clouds, so there’s less need for on-board storage. But many people like to be confident that they know where their files are stored, and can ensure that only they have access to them.

If you want to store your files directly onto your laptop, we would recommend that you go for SSD storage rather than HDD. About 64 GB should be enough for most people.

Value For Money

You can still get laptops that cost over $1000. And these are great laptops, very powerful and great for gaming. But please don’t get succumbed into spending more than you need to.

Unless you’re heavily into your PC gaming, there’s no need to spend more than $500 on a laptop. Laptops in this budget range can still handle movie streaming and photo editing and the like.

Our advice is to always check prices as you go along and learn just what your money buys you.
